The Los Angeles Kings acquired defenseman Sean O’Donnell from the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, receiving a conditional selection in the 2009 NHL draft in return.
The 36-year-old O’Donnell played for the Kings from 1994-2000. Heading into his 14th NHL season, he has appeared in a combined 932 games with Los Angeles, Anaheim, Phoenix, Boston, New Jersey and Minnesota.

Jeff O’Neill has ended his NHL comeback bid with the Carolina Hurricanes.
He notified the team of his decision after Sunday’s exhibition win over Philadelphia. Hurricanes president and general manager Jim Rutherford said it’s difficult for a player who sat out for a season to return to the league, but that O’Neill looked fine in training camp.
O’Neill was a key scorer on the Hurricanes team that reached the 2002 Stanley Cup finals.

Sabres center Paul Gaustad will miss up to the first three weeks of the regular season after he had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb Tuesday.
Gaustad, entering his fourth NHL season, was hurt during a fight in Buffalo’s 2-1 shootout loss to Minnesota on Sunday. He had one goal in two games in the preseason and was expected to provide a physical presence on the Sabres’ second or third line.
